How Lea Michele Moved On After Cory Monteith's Death
The "Scream Queens" star remembers her late beau, who died in 2013.
-- Lea Michele was devastated when Cory Monteith, her "Glee" co-star and boyfriend of more than a year, died in 2013.
Moving forward, she said, "was a struggle."
“Getting to the other side takes a lot of work. All you can do is get to the other side," she told Marie Claire for its November cover story. "When you do, there is happiness there. It’s important to me to keep private some of that process with how I got here. But I am here, I am good, and I am very grateful for that."
Monteith was 31 when he was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room in July 2013. The cause of death was later determined to be "intravenous heroin use combined with the ingestion of alcohol."
Michele, 29, has been dating Matthew Paetz since 2014. Michele, who stars in the new series "Scream Queens," told the magazine that she's also become more confident recently.
“Everybody thinks you’re a star with roses being dropped at your feet. You have to take some f***ing punches," she said. "Now I have my groove…I am much more aware. I also don’t care as much. I am very content with me."
