Lindsay Lohan Checks Into Rehab for Fourth Time

Perhaps to head off jail, actress entered lawyer Robert Shapiro's facility.

July 15, 2010 — -- Lindsay Lohan has reportedly checked into a Los Angeles rehab facility, the week before she is due to turn herself in to begin serving a 90-day jail sentence.

Following the news that Lohan hired Robert Shapiro, the famed lawyer from the O.J. Simpson case, reports say she has checked into the Pickford Lofts, an inpatient sober-living facility Shapiro opened after his son Brent died of a drug overdose.

Shapiro did not respond to requests for comment. But Lohan's father, Michael Lohan, confirmed the reports.

"For months, we have been begging Lindsay to enter rehab, for her own health, and to avoid incarceration," he said in a statement sent to ABCNews.com by his attorney Lisa Bloom. "We are pleased that at last she appears to have done so. As we have written in several letters to the Court, Lindsay belongs in rehab, not in jail."

"We hope that Lindsay gets off all prescription medication as well as any other substances that may be damaging her," the statement continued. "Michael Lohan is willing to attend any family therapy with Lindsay and other family members in an effort to help her fully heal. Michael loves his daughter unconditionally. He wants her to live. He stands ready, willing and able to help her in any way he can."

Michael Lohan has said he believes his daughter is addicted to presciption drugs. A recently-released probation report showed that Lohan was taking several medications, all with valid prescriptions: Dilaudid (a painkiller used for Lohan's dental discomfort, according to the document), Adderall (for attention deficit disorder ), Zoloft (for anxiety), Trazadone (for depression) and Nexium (for heartburn).

US Weekly was among the media outlets reporting that Lohan had checked into rehab.

"We have confirmed that Lindsay Lohan has entered rehab for the fourth time," US Weekly senior editor Lindsay Powers told ABCNews.com.

Powers said the starlet checked into the Pickford Lofts Wednesday morning and has already been visited by her ex, Samantha Ronson, and her mother, Dina Lohan -- both of whom were videotaped by TMZ entering the facility. A camera also caught Lohan entering the facility earlier.

Powers described the accomodations as luxurious. Each patient has their own loft with a designer kitchen and flat-screen television.

According to Pickford's website, Shapiro started the facility to provide a "supportive environment for those in recovery."

Shapiro was a member, with the late Johnnie Cochran, of O.J. Simpson's "dream team" of lawyers. They successfully defended the Hall of Famer against charges that he murdered his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman.

According to TMZ, Shapiro will try to convince Judge Marsha Revel either to eliminate or minimize her 90-day jail sentence, followed by 90 days in rehab. Lohan is scheduled to turn herself in Tuesday to begin serving her sentence.

Shapiro started the "The Brent Shapiro Foundation" to raise drug awareness after his son died in 2005.

With his experience with rehab facilities, Shapiro will likely try to convince the court that Lohan needs rehab instead of jail.

Lohan has said she is not going to jail, and that the only mistake she made was hiring the wrong lawyer. Her previous attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley, reportedly quit after Lohan vowed to appeal her sentence.

Danette Meyers, the prosecutor handling the case, told Radar Online that Lohan shouldn't even bother.

"It's a really a moot point to ask Judge Revel to send Ms. Lohan to rehab only as Judge Revel has already sentenced her," Meyers told the website.

"Ms. Lohan is going to jail," she said. "The only issue to be decided is what rehabilitation facility Ms. Lohan will be sent to after she serves her jail time."

Since her sentencing, Lohan has leaked a song about her troubled life and scrapped with comedian Joan Rivers.

Last week, the 77-year-old comedian mocked Lohan's knowledge of the legal system ("Lindsay Lohan said she wouldn't mind being under oath because she thought Oath was a Norwegian ski instructor") and joked about her hard-partying habits ("I was just reading about the new Lindsay Lohan diet, which is all liquid. 80 Proof").

Lindsay Lohan, Samantha Ronson, Joan Rivers -- the Battle Lives on Twitter

"Joan Rivers and her 'stargument' make me believe that she and Michael Lohan are a match made in heaven," Lohan tweeted on Tuesday. "All he needs is her botox doctor. 'Dr.' Drew -- any ideas? Botox rehab reality show?"

Lohan then used the rhymes of rapper 50 Cent to suggest that because Rivers has had plastic surgery, she shouldn't talk. At all.

"In the words of 50 cent, You shouldn't throw stones if you live in a glass house and if you got a glass jaw, you should watch yo mouth," she tweeted.

Rivers took Lohan's snipes in stride. Today, she tweeted "Samantha, Lindsay...you're welcome!," along with a link to a CelebTV video about the rumors that Lohan and her ex-girlfriend, Samantha Ronson, have reconciled because of Rivers' jokes.

But Tuesday on "The Insider," Rivers took a more serious tone.

"That girl is going to be dead in 10 years if somebody doesn't take care of her," she said about Lohan. "The jokes, my God, were so minor. One was: She is not used to being in front of the bar; she is used to being under the bar. Silly little jokes that I put in my Twitter all the time. I suggest that this skanky little girl [Ronson] not worry about the jokes; worry about Lindsay. I find this insane that they are all feeding off of Lindsay. Maybe somebody should take care of Lindsay."

Ronson responded to Rivers before Lohan, tweeting last weekend, "Hey Joan Rivers," she tweeted. "You have collagen older than Lindsay, pick on someone your own age, oh wait I guess people that old can't hear."

When a follower of Ronson's pointed out that Rivers' job is to jab, the 32-year-old DJ replied, "She's not at all funny." But Ronson got a smile out of Lohan -- on Saturday, Lohan retweeted her ex's message with the note, "thank you ;) I love yams x ."

Don't expect the battle to wage on. Asked if Ronson would share her thoughts on Lohan's sentence and Rivers' jokes, her rep told ABCNews.com, "She does not comment on that subject."

But at least one person might turn the Twitter back-and-forth into a greater project. Dr. Drew Pinksy responded to Lohan's Botox rehab reality show suggestion Tuesday, tweeting, "Thanks @lindsaylohan sounds like a terrific plan! Actually happy to see you have retained your sense of humor despite your circumstances."
