Lindsay Lohan Moves to Play Victoria Gotti
Lindsay Lohan showed up at a press conference for John Travolta's mob movie.
April 12, 2011 — -- Lindsay Lohan might be making a power play to get back into Hollywood's good graces.
Today the actress posed for photographs at a New York City press conference for "Gotti: Three Generations," an upcoming movie about the mob family that stars John Travolta and Joe Pesci. Nick Cassavetes has been tapped to direct.
But here's the thing: While Lohan is in talks regarding a part in the film, nothing's official yet. And she refused to answer questions about her potential role.
So why was Lohan there? Maybe because a role in a big, prestigious movie like "Gotti: Three Generations" would give her career -- which has foundered since her 2007 DUI arrests and the multiple rehab and jail stints that followed -- the boost it needs.
"Lindsay is a terrific actress," said Mark Fiore, whose production company is backing the "Gotti." "Nothing has been finalized, but we are definitely in talks."
Travolta echoed Fiore's sentiments, adding that "Lindsay Lohan happens to be a very big fan of mine." (Travolta also revealed what drew him to the movie -- a conversation with co-producer and mob boss son John Gotti Jr: "His father lost a son and I lost a son and we discussed that, how painful it was.")
When ABCNews.com asked Lohan what appealed to her about the film, Fiore Films publicist Steve Honig dodged the question for her, saying it was premature to discuss her role. ABCNews.com followed up by asking Cassavetes what he envisioned for Lohan. Honig again said it's too soon to say, although Cassavetes joked, "I was gonna tell you."
It's not hard to find the answer, or clues to it online. According to TMZ.com, Victoria Gotti specifically requested that Lohan play her in the movie instead of other possible actresses, including Blake Lively and Sienna Miller.

Today Gotti and Lohan posed together for press photographs and chatted with Lohan's mom, Dina Lohan. Gotti, 48, is twice as old as Lohan, 24, but it's not a stretch to see the actress as the wife of the infamous mobster.
The big screen isn't the only place to catch Lohan fighting the law. She's due in court April 22 for a preliminary hearing in her alleged theft of a $2,500 necklace.
Last month, Lohan rejected a plea deal that could have lessened her felony grand theft charge. It's now likely she will face a jury trial. If convicted, she could face a maximum of three years in prison.
