Mariah Carey Confirms New Reality Show, 'Mariah's World'
"I thought it would be a good opportunity to ... show my personality," she said.
-- It’s official: Mariah Carey is getting her own reality-TV show, or something like that, on the E! channel.
The singer confirmed to The New York Times that she’ll be starring in an eight-part documentary series called "Mariah’s World."
Filming for the show began two weeks ago. It will follow Carey on tour in Europe and South Africa and as she plans her wedding to Australian billionaire James Packer. The wedding reportedly will take place this spring, but no date has been set.
Carey, who divorced Nick Cannon last year, explains that the series won’t be frivolous or exploitative. “I refuse to call it a reality show,” she told the Times.
She says it’s more about getting to know her better and not, “Here I am, getting my nails done.”
She adds that her 4-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, won’t be filmed much. Neither will Packer.
“I thought it would be a good opportunity to kind of, like, show my personality and who I am, even though I feel like my real fans have an idea of who I am,” Carey said. “A lot of people have misperceptions about this and that.”
The hour-long series is expected to debut later this year, possibly by late summer.
