How Matt Bomer Lost Over 35 Pounds for 'The Normal Heart'
Oscar-winner Matthew McConaughey gave the actor some great advice.
April 23, 2014 -- Matt Bomer really committed himself to his role in "The Normal Heart," where he plays a gay man dying of AIDS.
So much so, that the "White Collar" star told Details magazine he lost a lot of weight for the film.
"I stopped weighing myself after losing 35 pounds," Bomer told the magazine. "I thought the number wasn't the important thing to focus on. This wasn't 'Biggest Loser.'"
Bomer said he worked with doctors, did a 14-day alkalized-water, juice, tea, and enzyme cleanse and spoke with Matthew McConaughey, who also lost major weight for his Oscar-winning performance in "Dallas Buyers Club."
"He called me and walked me through what he did," he said. "It was very generous, but I took a slightly different path."

Bomer added it took him three months to drop the weight and that he's still recovering.
The actor also thanked Larry Kramer, the playwright who wrote "The Normal Heart," from which the movie was inspired. Kramer was on set the day DOMA was overturned and has been an activist for gay rights for years.
"He's an Abraham Lincoln figure—he has affected the cultural landscape of this country, and not always popularly," Bomer said. "I wouldn't have a lot of the rights I have today if it wasn't for people like Larry."
Bomer, who came out himself in 2012, also revealed that he married his longtime boyfriend Simon Halls in 2011. The couple have three sons.
