Meet the New Captain America - Sam Wilson, Formerly the Falcon
Meet the new game-changing superhero!
-- Marvel teased a few weeks ago that there would be a new Captain America and it would no longer be Steve Rogers.
Last night, Marvel CCO Joe Quesada stopped by "The Colbert Report" and revealed it would be Sam Wilson, formerly the superhero known as the Falcon, who would take over in October as the Captain.

Colbert jokingly offered himself to be the next Captain, but Quesada said "No Stephen, it's not you ... Sam Wilson, his partner the Falcon, is becoming the new Captain America."
He added that it will be strictly in the comics.
Wilson was one of the first black superheros in mainstream comics, originally appearing in the late 1960's. Marvel has always been known for breaking down barriers, the first to kill off a super hero's girlfriend (Gwen Stacy, we are looking at you) and most recently, the company announced a new Thor that would be a female version.
Actor Anthony Mackie famously played the Falcon in this year's blockbuster movie "Captain America: The Winter Soldier."
Wilson will take on the role of Captain America in October’s Captain America #25 and become the seventh Captain to wear the star-spangled uniform.
As for Steve Rogers, his superhero powers were drained from him by the Iron Nail and thus, he became an old man and will protect America strategically from behind a desk.
Disclosure: Marvel is a part of Disney, the parent company of ABC.
