Meg Ryan Speaks Out on Aging in Hollywood
The 54-year-old celeb says Hollywood has become obsessed with actresses' ages.
-- Meg Ryan is Hollywood's romantic-comedy queen but the 54-year-old star is now taking issue with Hollywood’s focus on women's appearances and aging.
Ryan, a mother of two, told fashion website Net-a-Porter's PORTER magazine, “There are more important conversations than how women look and how they are aging.”
Ryan has made headlines over the past few years for her changing looks and alluded to such media attention in the interview with Net-a-Porter.
“I don’t pay a lot of attention, frankly,” Ryan said. “There’s a lot of hatred in the world today. It’s so easy to judge.
“Imagine being a hater, how stupid,” she added.
The magazine’s features director, Vassi Chamberlain, said Ryan has “probably been hurt” by the attention on her looks.
“I think, intelligently, she’s looked to find out how she can deal with it. I think she’s also, like all women, very sensitive about her changing face,” Chamberlain told ABC News. “When, I think, a woman has not been in the public eye for a very long time, those images the paparazzi capture become, in the public consciousness, how she looks.”
Ryan is back in the spotlight now, recently appearing on the pop culture game show “Billy on the Street” and making her directorial debut on the film “Ithaca,” in which she stars with Tom Hanks.
“I love my age,´ Ryan told the magazine. “I love my life right now. I love the person I’ve become, the one I’ve evolved into.”
The latest issue of PORTER magazine is available globally this Friday.
