Michael Phelps Talks for First Time About Marrying in Secret
The swimmer said: "Just because."
-- Michael Phelps is opening up about his secret wedding to now-wife Nicole Johnson.
"I’ve been married for a while -- a couple months," he said during a Facebook Live video Thursday.
"I had to keep it a secret from y’all. I had to keep it hush-hush from you guys," the Olympic swimmer added, smiling. "But Nicole and I are married. We are officially married ... and now we are getting the chance to kind of kick it and hang out now."
In the video, Phelps, 31, is golfing with fellow Baltimore athlete, Ray Lewis, a former linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens. The gold medalist even showed off that he's not yet wearing a wedding ring.
When asked why he kept his marriage a secret, Phelps replied: "Just because."
The swimmer, father to 5-month-old son Boomer, also hinted that he could be expanding his family soon.
"Baby number two may be coming soon," he teased. "Who knows, though?"
According to a record of marriage obtained by ABC News, the Olympic gold medalist wed the former Miss California USA in Paradise Valley, Arizona, on June 13.
Phelps and Johnson, who is also 31, announced their engagement in February 2015.
