Michael Phelps Wears Olympic Medals, Speedo at Basketball Game
Phelps' distraction helped the Arizona State Sun Devils win the game.
-- Olympic champion swimmer Michael Phelps donned a Speedo, swim cap and a neck full of gold medals to a basketball game Thursday night.
The ensemble was revealed after Phelps emerged from behind the famous “curtain of distraction” at Arizona State University’s basketball game against the Oregon State Beavers.
Phelps, 30, appeared alongside two men dressed in bow ties, tuxedo cuffs and not much else as they tried to distract Oregon State players from making free throw baskets.
The gambit worked when Oregon State's Stephen Thompson Jr. missed both of his shots near the end of the game. The Arizona State Sun Devils went on to win, 86 to 68.
Phelps, who has 22 Olympic medals, is currently training at Arizona State University for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, according to ESPN.
Arizona State’s “curtain of distraction” is well-known. Previous distractions include a man dressed up as Miley Cyrus in her “Wrecking Ball” video and a man wildly playing a guitar, among others. The school’s student section, known as the "942 Crew," also tweeted about Phelps’ appearance at Thursday’s game.
