Mike Tyson, Man of Letters: Ex-Champ Applies to Join Union of Russian Writers

Former heavyweight boxing champ Mike Tyson has applied to join the Union of Russian Writers, an elite group of Russian scribes that also allows foreign members.

His promoter, perhaps not surprisingly, told ABC’s Tanya Stukalova, he was confident Tyson will be accepted as a member.

Representatives for the Union of Russian Writers were unavailable for comment, but Tyson's promoter said a decision could be announced as early as this evening with a public presentation next Monday.

Tyson last year penned an autobiography, "Tyson: Undisputed Truth," and that was submitted along with his application to the Union. He will arrive in Moscow in a few weeks to attend a fight by a Russian boxer.
