New Movies Disappoint at Weekend Box Office

— -- There were five new films in theaters this weekend, and none of them made much of an impression at the box office.

"The Last Witch Hunter," starring Vin Diesel, delivered the best performance of the lot -- a fourth-place finish, having earned $10.8 million.

The horror film "Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension" opened in sixth place, collecting $8.2 million.

In its first weekend in wide release, "Steve Jobs" landed in seventh place, raising $7.3 million.

The other two new films didn't even crack the top 10: Bill Murray's "Rock the Kasbah" made $1.5 million, while "Jem and the Holograms" made $1.3 million. "Jem" set a dubious record: the worst debut ever for a film playing on more than 2,400 screens.

"The Martian" was the number-one movie, with $15.9 million, displacing the previous box office champ, "Goosebumps," which made $15.5 million.
