Nicki Minaj Explains Racy 'Anaconda' Video
Nicki Minaj will perform "Anaconda" at Sunday's VMAs.
-- The video for Nicki Minaj’s hit song “Anaconda” is burning up the Internet with its steamy background and chorus of women showing off their rear ends, and the music superstar says it’s just what she had envisioned.
“I wanted to reinstate something,” Minaj told ABC News. “Because of the shift in pop culture, even hip-hop men are really glorifying the less curvy body.
“I wanted to say, ‘Hey ladies, you’re beautiful,’” Minaj said. “Hopefully, this changes things and maybe it won’t change things, but I love it.”

The 31-year-old rapper will perform “Anaconda” at this Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, but she was tight-lipped when it came to revealing details about either that performance or her show-opening performance of “Bang Bang” with Ariana Grande and Jessie J.
“I remember being little and watching the TV to see who was performing on the VMAs,” mentioning all she would say about the big night.
Minaj’s double performances at the VMAs will be the culmination of a busy year for the star, who first hit the music scene in 2010. Her recent single “Pills and Potions” was a chart-topping hit and she was featured in the headline-making remix of the hit song “Flawless,” released by Beyonce this month.
“I haven’t put out an album in over two-and-a-half years,” Minaj said. “For me to even still be relevant, I want to say thank you to my fans for keeping my name alive.”
Minaj’s fans can look forward to finally having a new album from her later this year - “The Pink Print" - that she says will continue to surprise and shock.
“I think having more experiences and adding that with being a writer, it makes just for a great album,” she said. “I’m making sure to give people what they love and at the same time, I’m going to push the envelope.”
