— -- Nicki Minaj took some heat on Monday when the lyric video for her new song "Only" was released, to which some critics took offense with what they saw as glorifying of Nazi Germany and its leader Adolf Hitler.
Today, the singer has apologized.
"I didn't come up w/the concept, but I'm very sorry & take full responsibility if it has offended anyone. I'd never condone Nazism in my art," Minaj tweeted this morning.
She continued, "Both the producer, & person in charge of over seeing the lyric video (one of my best friends & videographer: A. Loucas), happen to be Jewish. The artist who made the lyric video for “Only” was influenced by a cartoon on Cartoon Network called "Metalocalypse" & Sin City."
These comments come after organizations like the Anti-Defamation League spoke up Monday with disgust for the video.
"Nicki Minaj’s new video disturbingly evokes Third Reich propaganda and constitutes a new low for pop culture’s exploitation of Nazi symbolism," said Abraham H. Foxman, the national director for the ADL and a Holocaust survivor.
