Kanye West: What Has -- and Hasn't -- Changed Since His Last Interruption

— -- Kanye West is known to express his displeasure publicly, and there was a breath-holding moment of déjà vu Sunday night at the Grammy Awards.

Taylor Swift was on the wrong end of West's opinions at the MTV Video Music Awards in 2009 when he slammed her award in favor of his friend Beyoncé, and he almost pulled the same stunt Sunday night when Beck won a Grammy.

Although he didn't repeat his infamous acceptance speech interruption Sunday night, there were fears, given the expressions on Jay-Z’s and Beyoncé’s faces, that history may be repeated.

What stopped him? A newfound maturity? Here's a look at some of the things that have changed in West's life since the 2009 incident.

His Red Carpet Rundown

Then: In 2009, West brought then-girlfriend Amber Rose with him to the awards ceremony in New York. While her skin-tight, snakeskin-print body suit was eye-catching, so was the bottle of Hennessey that he drank throughout the walk into the ceremony.

Now: The rapper was much more tame Sunday night. Though he was wearing a relatively calm all-black suit (with his chest exposed), his date was also wearing a revealing outfit. This time, his wife, Kim Kardashian, was the woman by his side, wearing a beaded gold robe-like dress with an extremely high slit and deep V-neck.

His Music

Then: West unveiled his album “808s & Heartbreak” at the VMAs in 2008 to mixed results, and was nominated for four awards in 2009. He didn't win.

Now: West performed both his latest single, “Only One,” and alongside Sir Paul McCartney and Rihanna as part of the trio's collaboration on Rihanna's song “FourFive Seconds.”

His Public Display of Displeasure

Then: The infamous moment and meme-generator came when West interrupted Swift's acceptance speech after she was awarded the year's Best Female Video Moonman.

"Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you and I'mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!" he said of Beyoncé’s Single Ladies video.

Celebrities and critics blasted West, and the moment went down as the biggest takeaway from the award ceremony.

Now: West began walking up onto the stage after Prince presented Beck with the Grammy for the Best Album of the year, and while Beck motioned for West to take the mic, he decided to go back to his seat.

That didn't stop him from unloading later, however. After the Grammys ended, he opened up to his sister-in-law turned special E! correspondent Khloe Kardashian.

"The Grammys, if they want real artists to come back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain't gonna play with them no more. Flawless, Beyoncé video, and Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé," he said to E!.

What President Obama Thinks of West's Outburst

Then: In an initially off-the-record comment, President Obama called West a "jackass" for "butting in" on Swift's moment.

He didn't mind going on the record in 2012, however, when he repeated his insult during an interview with The Atlantic.

Now: President Obama has been busy meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel this morning to talk about their fight against ISIS and, understandably, not had a chance to publicly talk about the Beck incident Sunday night.

But if Instagram serves as any indication, all seems to have been forgiven as Kim Kardashian recently posted a photo of her posing with the president and her husband, complete with a personal message from Obama.

His Relationship with Taylor Swift

Then: West left a then-18-year-old country singer standing awkwardly on stage, not knowing what to do when he had interrupted her first win. She said later the offered her a "very sincere" apology days later.

Now: They've put it in the past. At one point before the Beck interruption Sunday night, West and the now-25-year-old pop singer posed for a photo together during the Grammys and were all smiles.
