Oscars 2016: Brie Larson Describes 'Craziest Feeling' of Winning Best Actress Oscar
The actress took home the statue for her role in "Room."
-- “Room” star Brie Larson described herself as “super jet lagged” on the Oscars red carpet, but winning the Academy Award for Best Actress certainly woke the actress up.
“I’m very awake right now,” Larson, 26, told “Good Morning America” co-anchor Robin Roberts backstage at the Dolby Theatre Sunday night.
“This is the craziest feeling,” Larson said. “I don't even know what it is, what I'm feeling right now, because it's never happened before.”
Larson flew in for the Oscars from Vietnam, where she is currently filming a movie. The actress told Roberts that filming in the country has reminded her of what she calls her “responsibility” of acting.
“To be able to film in Vietnam and see how that movie, and being there, is creating this bond, creating this sense of forgiveness, a handshake that's saying, we're good, that things are good between us,” Larson said. “It's reminded me once again the importance of film and how it brings people together.”
“[Movies] brings people together in the theater, becomes a topic of conversation,” she added. “When we're sitting in the theater it becomes a moment where we feel like we are a part of the world.”
In “Room,” Larson portrays a young mother held captive with her son, played by 9-year-old Jacob Tremblay. The actress revealed the cast sang karaoke as a way to release the stress of filming the dark subject matter.
“If you get too serious than you are doing a disservice to the work because it's not about playing serious, it's about playing truth,” Larson said. “So if you get too deep into the drama of it than you're going too far.”
“You have to find a balance and a way to bring yourself back so that you always have perspective of what's happening, of what's in front of you, instead of getting caught up,” she continued.
Just moments after accepting her Oscar, Larson was still trying to get perspective of her new honor.
“Your camera people are laughing at me because I don't know what to do with myself,” Larson told Roberts. “I'm not going to try to act like I'm cool. I don't understand what happened with this.”
Larson also said she had no idea where she would put her Oscar once she gets home.
“I didn't think I was going to win! Like, what?” Larson said. “To think this would be anywhere near me.”
