'The Revenant' Tops Weekend Box Office

See what movie surprisingly came in second.

The Leonardo DiCaprio drama earned an estimated $16 million in its third week of wide release.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ranked second, collecting $14.3 million. It has now made $879 million at the domestic box office and $1.94 billion globally to date.

Last week's box office champ, "Ride Along 2," fell to third place with $13 million.

The Zac Efron-Robert De Niro comedy "Dirty Grandpa" debuted in the fourth spot, with $11.5 million. It was followed by the horror movie "The Boy," which opened at $11.3 million, followed by "The 5th Wave," which took in $10.7 million.

Here are the top 10 movies from Friday through Sunday, with estimated ticket sales, according to Rentrak:

  • 2. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, $14.3 million.
  • 3. Ride Along 2, $13 million.
  • 4. Dirty Grandpa, $11.5 million.
  • 5. The Boy, $11.3 million.
  • 6. The 5th Wave, $10.7 million.
  • 7. 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, $9.8 million.
  • 8. Daddy's Home, $5.3 million.
  • 9. Norm of the North, $4.1 million.
  • 10. The Big Short, $3.5 million.
