Rory Feek Reveals Late Wife Joey Feek's Last Words
Joey Feek died in March, after a two-year battle with cervical cancer.
— -- Before she lost her battle to cancer in March, Joey Feek, one half of the singing duo Joey + Rory, said her final goodbye to husband Rory Feek with a song.
"We repeated 'I love you' three times to each other," Rory Feek, 51, revealed to People in a new interview. "It's the last line of a song I wrote years ago called 'Josephine,' an imaginary love story between a husband and wife."
It was clearly inspired by their own love story.
"For most all of our marriage -- in the birthday, Valentine's Day, or anniversary cards we gave each other and before we went to bed -- we have always said the same thing," Feek told People.
Now, six months after his wife's death, Feek is getting by with help from their two-year-old daughter Indiana.
"Just like she did for Joey, Indy makes me laugh a lot," Rory said of the little girl who was born with Down syndrome three months before Joey was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2014. "She's the child we were meant to have."
Feek recalled how his wife "couldn't bear the idea that she was going to leave me a single parent again because I'd already been through it." Feek has two older daughters, Heidi, 29, and Hopie, 27, from a previous marriage.
"She said, 'It's not fair. You're not supposed to have to do this again.'" Feek continued. "I said, 'But on the other hand, I'm perfect. I already know how.'"
Feek is currently working on a book based on his blog "This Life I Live," which documented the couple's journey since Joey Feek's cancer diagnosis. The book is scheduled to arrive in stores on February 14, 2017. Before then, Feek's documentary about his wife, "To Joey, With Love," will hit theaters on Tuesday, September 20, for one night only.
