'Scandal' Recap: It's a Jail Break
Read all about last night's episode.
-- On Thursday's episode of "Scandal," the Senate Judiciary Committee was still investigating to see if President Fitzgerald Grant should be impeached for having an extramarital affair with Olivia Pope.
The committee even tricked First Lady Mellie Grant into testifying, causing her to make herself look guilty when they brought up Fitz's other affair with Jeanine Lock. Remember her? What a blast from seasons' past!
President Grant's political strategist said they were switching strategies and Fitz would no longer testify and would instead invoke Executive Privilege. Fitz said that helped him get out of testifying, but what about Liv? So Cyrus, in his new role as chief of staff, suggested the two get married -- that way Liv can't testify thanks to the longstanding law, spousal privilege.
A few scenes later, Fitz proposed to Olivia in the cheesiest way -- candles, flowers everywhere and even rose petals. Liv looked disgusted at his grand gesture. "We're not ready to get married," she told Fitz, before telling him, "Please get up. This is not what I wanted ... some fake storybook romance."
Fitz admitted that it wasn't what he wanted either, but he would sacrifice for her. Eventually, Liv accepted the proposal by simply slipping on the ring while the two laid in bed -- very unceremonious.
Across town, Vice President Susan Ross wanted to turn in her resignation so she went to Attorney General David Rosen for advice. There's no word on if she's really leaving or not.
Mellie finally discovered the identity of that rich donor, who marched into her campaign, when Liv went to her, asking that she release a familiar face. Although she thought his name was "Damascus Bainbridge," Liv told her that the man's name was Eli Pope and "he's my father." The first lady was visibly confused, then went off on Liv, telling her what she already knew -- that her father was a murderer. Liv -- in a moment of retaliation -- told her that in fact, "My father killed your son." Ouch.
While Liv ran, Mellie freed Eli. The devil is back in Washington. And he brought Tom along with him.
