Behind the Scenes at Halle Berry's Lingerie Line, Scandale Paris

Halle Berry's in the lingerie business.

Because the line was very upscale, it wouldn’t be within reach of every woman, said Berry, who is married to actor Olivier Martinez.

“But I thought, ‘I love the concept of this. How could I revive this and bring it to America at a price point that every woman could enjoy?’” she said.

Scandale Paris is now in select Target stores and online at Target.com, with a new collection coming out in the spring. Pieces in the line retail for between $7 and $18.

“I have bras that have either been given to me or I bought myself that are, like, $200, $300. You know?“ she said. “But you can buy a Scandale Paris bra for sixteen bucks and it's going to last you just as long and be just as beautiful, I guarantee you.”

She said her bras are made with good quality materials, including quality laces and fabrics.

“I think that's what makes a good bra,” she said. “When you put it in the washing machine it's not going to fall apart. And that all starts with the quality of the materials that you're using and how you put it together.”

The actress is hands-on about the creations, and says a good bra has to be both quality and comfortable to wear.

“We come up with fabrics that we all like. We come up with laces ...,” she said.

When Mathison asked her who the ultimate Scandale Paris woman, Berry said, “Every woman. Every woman that cares about - feeling good from the inside out. And I think that's most women. We care about what we have on under our clothes. We care about what we look like when we take our clothes off. And so therefore I think it's every woman. Young, college students -- entrepreneur, the mom, the working woman … It’s for all women.”

Berry also said women don’t wear lingerie for men. “Women buy lingerie for themselves,” she said.

Berry said she wanted her lingerie to have a direct effect on the wearer.

“I want the Scandale woman to feel confident. To feel beautiful. To feel sexy. To feel prepared for any situation. You know, I want her to feel comfortable in what she's wearing. And -- you know, and then if her man gets to reap the benefit of that at the end of the day, then good for him,” she said, laughing.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, Mathison asked whether men could buy their women lingerie or whether women preferred to do it themselves.

“I think you should continue to give it your best shot,” Berry said.

Berry said her involvement with the business allows her to have more balance in her life.

“I get to do something I really love, that I care about, that I believe in, but I also get to spend time with my family and my kids,” she said. “And that's also really important to me.”

Scandale Paris will expand to Europe and Asia later this year.
