'Serial' Moves to a Biweekly Schedule
Season two of the show is chronicling the Bowe Bergdahl case.
-- "Serial" is going biweekly.
Host Sarah Koenig announced Tuesday that because they're adding more reporting to the podcast show, a weekly schedule is no longer viable.
The next episode will become available on Jan. 21, and the series will continue to be biweekly for the rest of this season.
"This story goes in so many directions, and as we’re reporting it, we’re getting access to more of the key people close to Bergdahl’s case, and to more information than we initially thought we would. Which is great," she wrote on the podcast's website. "And which means we’re going to be adding at least one extra episode to the series. To do that—or at least to do it right—will take some time. Hence the change."
Season one of "Serial" focused on the murder trial of high school student Adnan Syed, who was convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend in 2000. This season chronicles the case of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who allegedly deserted his unit in 2009 and was held captive by the Taliban for five years. He was arraigned on charges of misbehavior before the enemy and desertion at Fort Bragg, North Carolina last month and did not order a plea.
If convicted of the former, he could face a life sentence. The latter carries a maximum sentence of five years behind bars.
