Her drama “The Fault in Our Stars” was named movie of the year, and Woodley received the award for best female performance for her role as a cancer-stricken teen. The prize for best kiss went to Woodley and her “Fault in Our Stars” co-star Ansel Elgort.

Woodley was also the recipient of the MTV Trailblazer Award, presented to her by her “Insurgent” and “The Spectacular Now” co-star Miles Teller.

Downey remarked that since MTV launched in the early 1980s, "I have grown up, I've struggled, I've failed, I've succeeded, I partied way too much. I've squandered, resisted, surrendered, repented, labored, begged for second chances, and literally clawed my way to the top."

She began her opening monologue in part by joking, "Half of you don't know who I am and half of you think I'm Meghan Trainor."

She picked on Hart's small stature quite a bit; at one point she asked, "Did you see Boyhood? He was the boy age 8 to 9. He was the fake baby in American Sniper."

The show also featured new previews of “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and “Pitch Perfect 2,” as well as musical performances by Fall Out Boy and Charli XCX.
