Snooki, Star of 'Jersey Shore,' Arrested for Disorderly Conduct

July 30, 2010— -- Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, the trash-talking breakout star of MTV's hit "Jersey Shore," was arrested today in Seaside Heights, N.J., for disorderly conduct during shooting of the reality show's third season, her manager and law enforcement officials confirmed to ABCNews.com.

Photos posted on the gossip site TMZ.com, show the diminutive brunette, sitting on the boardwalk drinking out of a funnel or "beer bong," and being led away in handcuffs by two uniformed police officers.

The Seaside Heights Police Department would not confirm her arrest. But Snooki's manager Dan Mackey and the Ocean County Jail both confirmed she had been arrested.

Mackey would not comment further on the arrest. Jail officials said if she were only arrested for disorderly conduct it was unlikely she would be brought to the county jail.

Snooki, 22, who made headlines once this week already when President Obama in an interview said he did not know who she was, has become a cultural touchstone.

The smash series' second season premiered on Thursday and is predicted to be one of the most watched cable television programs this year.

In the lead up to the premier criticism lobbed at "Jersey Shore" -- a runaway reality show that documents the lives of eight Italian Americans living together at a beach house -- has been directed at Snooki, whose gaudy style sense and scrappy attitude has made her an icon.

Originally from Marlboro, N.Y., the 5' 4" reality star was reportedly charged in the drunk driving death of a high school classmate in 2004. The charges were later dropped.

In an interview last year with ABCNews.com, she denied she had a problem with alcohol.

"I don't have to drink all the time to have fun. I'm a normal person. too. I just like to have fun at the Jersey Shore. I don't want everyone to think I need rehab. I want people think I'm a fun, nice girl," she said.

The show's second season will feature the the tan, fist-pumping cast moving out of the Garden State and onto the ritzy beaches of Miami.

Polizzi will be joined by Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and company as they take their hair gel and self-described "guido" and "guidette" charms to the South Beach bar scene.

The group became overnight stars after the conclusion of season 1, when the final episode garnered nearly 5 million viewers. The anticipation for the show's second season was great enough that the cast was invited to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday.
