Why Stanley Tucci 'Panicked' After Proposing to Felicity Blunt
Actor talks about the guilt he felt before his second marriage to Blunt.
-- Stanley Tucci and his wife, Felicity Blunt, recently welcomed a baby boy, but the actor admitted in a new interview that he "panicked instantly" after proposing to her.
Tucci, who was married to his first wife, Kate, for 14 years years before she died of breast cancer in 2009, proposed to Blunt, a literary agent and the sister of actress Emily Blunt, in 2011.
But he revealed to the U.K. newspaper the Times that when he proposed, "I panicked instantly afterwards," while admitting that it wasn't easy to move on.
The 54-year-old actor added, "It was very hard to go on vacations at first, really hard to go with Felicity someplace. I felt guilty. It’s horrible."
He paused, adding, "You always feel guilty."
Tucci acknowledged that it had to be difficult for Blunt, 33, at first, too.
"There are photographs around at home. ... Not that many, but I would have difficulty," he told The Times. "And especially when we first met, it was only two years after Kate died."
The couple married in 2013 with Steve Buscemi as best man and Emily Blunt as maid of honor. Guests included Colin Firth, Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore.
Rather than remain outside of New York City, where he and his first wife, a social worker, raised their three children, Tucci opted for a fresh start in Blunt's hometown, London.
The pair, who love to cook and recently penned a cookbook, live in a suburb of London with Tucci's three teenage children and their 2-month-old baby, Matteo, who was born at the end of January.
"People here are just shocked. They are like, ‘Why did you move here? The weather?’" Tucci said with a laugh. "But I am so comfortable here. I didn’t want to continue living in Westchester [County, New York]. Once my wife passed away, I was there by myself and what was I doing? To me, this was the healthier option."
