Is 'Star Wars' Returning to Television?

ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey wants to see it happen.

— -- The Force will be with ABC, if the network's entertainment president, Channing Dungey, has her way.

"We have had conversations with them. We will continue to have conversations with them," she revealed at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills. "I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand onto our programming."

Dungey certainly would like to see it happen, as a self-described fan of the series.

The "Star Wars" franchise was revived last year with the theatrical release of the smash hit "The Force Awakens," which earned more than $2 billion dollars worldwide. More movies in the franchise are in the works, including "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," due out in December. Cable network, Disney XD, currently airs an animated "Star Wars" show, "Star Wars Rebels." But a live-action "Star Wars" television show would be a new addition to Disney networks.

Disney is the parent company of ABC and Lucasfilm.
