Steven Spielberg Has No Plan to Replace Harrison Ford in Future 'Indiana Jones' Films
Director torpedoes rumors that actor Chris Pratt was being considered as "Indy."
— -- Steven Spielberg is making it clear that as long as he has anything to say about it, Harrison Ford will never be replaced as the namesake character of the "Indiana Jones" movies.
The director of the adventure film franchise told Screen Daily that, in his mind, the role of the iconic character belongs to Ford, and Ford only.
"I don’t think anyone could replace Harrison as Indy, I don’t think that’s ever going to happen," Spielberg said.
The 68-year-old director explained that he does not want Indiana Jones' character to follow the same path of some characters in several other film franchises, in which multiple actors play the role of a character throughout the years.
“It’s certainly not my intention to ever have another actor step into his shoes in the way there have been many actors that have played Spider-Man or Batman," Spielberg said. "There is only going to be one actor playing Indiana Jones and that’s Harrison Ford.”
Ford, 73, has played the role of Dr. Henry "Indiana" Jones in all four of the "Indiana Jones" films: 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark," 1984's “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" and 2008's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."
Actor Chris Pratt was one actor rumored to be tapped to play Indiana Jones in future films, but it looks as if Spielberg has already made up his mind for his only choice for the role.
When asked why he wants to continue the "Indiana Jones" franchise, the director replied, "because there are more adventures out there than films.”
"As long as there’s more adventures out there,” he said, “I’ve got a bullwhip, a fedora, a leather jacket and a man on a horse who knows how to get the job done.”
