Pie Star Lyonne Arrested for Drunken Driving
August 29, 2001 -- What do you say if you've just been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving? If you're American Pie actress Natasha Lyonne, you tell police, "I'm a movie star. Can I talk to my entertainment lawyer?"
Although starring in Slums of Beverly Hills doesn't exactly make her a "movie star," Lyonne's work in American Pie and its sequel and in Woody Allen's Everyone Says I Love You has earned her critical acclaim.
The 22-year-old was arrested Tuesday in Miami Beach, Fla., for allegedly driving drunk after she crashed a rental car into a road sign, police said.
Lyonne had backed out of the bushes and was about to take off in her rented Dodge when an officer stopped her and smelled alcohol on her breath, the New York Daily News reports.
Her passenger and reported boyfriend, Saving Private Ryan actor Adam Goldberg, reportedly told police, "I tried to stop her. I just didn't know how." Goldberg was uninjured in the crash.
Lyonne was charged with careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving under the influence. She was released from the Miami-Dade County jail on $2,000 bond after eight hours in jail, Reuters reports.
The actress, whose credits also include But I'm a Cheerleader and Scary Movie 2, used to date Terminator 2 star Edward Furlong, who's had his own problems with alcohol and has been in and out of rehab.
