Kidman Says Cruise Denied Cruz Affair
July 20, 2001 -- Nicole Kidman is reportedly furious with her soon-to-be-ex, Tom Cruise, over his just-revealed romance with Penélope Cruz. According to People magazine, Cruise repeatedly denied that anything was going on between him and his Vanilla Sky co-star.
A close friend of the Moulin Rouge star tells People, "Nicole was just totally in shock. She said, 'He flat-out swore to me up and down that there was nothing going on.'" Added the friend, "All this time she's been wondering why the marriage ended, and this could be it."
The magazine says that yes, Cruz was vacationing with her homophonic new beau (for the record, "homophonic" means "sound-alike," you salacious so-and-sos) in Fiji, as were Cruise's sister Lee Anne and other guests.
Cruise and Kidman had booked a two-week stay at Fiji's exclusive Wakaya Club long before they split up, says People, so when vacation time rolled around, they each took one week on the tropical isle.
Variety's Army Archerd, of all people, reports that Cruise and Cruz may join Cruise's Minority Report director, Steven Spielberg; Spielberg's wife, Kate Capshaw; and Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson on a chartered excursion to the Caribbean.
