Julia and Ben Split
June 28, 2001 -- Another glamorous Hollywood couple is kaput: Julia Roberts and Benjamin Bratt have broken up, reportedly because he was jealous of her attentions to her latest co-star, George Clooney.
The just-Oscared, highest-paid actress in the world and her handsome beau have called it quits after more than three years of photogenic bliss, according to both the New York Post and the New York Daily News.
The tabs say that Bratt, 37, gave 33-year-old Julia the boot after hearing how chummy she had gotten with 40-year-old Clooney on the set of Ocean's 11.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, at the film's April wrap party in Sin City, Roberts and Clooney "put on a steamy show on the dance floor."
The Perfect Storm hunk, meanwhile, recently parted ways with British model Lisa Snowdon.
Reps for Bratt and Roberts confirmed that the two have gone their separate ways but insist on the well-worn publicist's phrase that "there was no third party involved," and that the breakup was mutual.
The Daily News reports that Bratt was tired of living in the pretty woman's famous shadow as "Mr. Julia Roberts," but that he was also tired of pressuring her to marry him.
The Post quotes an unnamed Roberts pal as saying that the actress is "having a very, very hard time" with getting the boot from Bratt. Unnamed folks in his camp tell the Post, "Why do you think they split? Look at her history with her co-stars!"
That "history with her co-stars" includes liaisons with Liam Neeson, Dylan McDermott, and Kiefer Sutherland, whom she was set to marry before leaving him for actor Jason Patric. Roberts confounded the world when she departed from her acting hunks to marry singer Lyle Lovett. That marriage lasted only a year, after which she was linked to actors including Ethan Hawke and Daniel Day-Lewis. Wags gossiped that Jennifer Aniston was also fearful of Roberts' record when the Erin Brockovich star worked with her husband, Brad Pitt, on The Mexican.
Before he met Roberts, Bratt dated actress Jennifer Esposito and filmmaker Monica McClure.
