Alba to Wed 'Dark Angel' Co-Star
May 9, 2001 -- Following on the heels of the possibly heartbreaking news that Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Sarah Michelle Gellar will march down the aisle with beau Freddie Prinze Jr. comes word of another TV action heroine tying the knot.
Jessica Alba, the curvaceous star of Fox's Dark Angel, will wed her TV co-star, Michael Weatherly. The two have not announced a wedding date.
Colleagues Kept Romance Quiet
A rep for the 20-year-old Alba confirmed the engagement, which was first reported by Los Angeles-area radio station KROQ, to Mr. Showbiz. The rep for Alba says it will be the first marriage for the actress, who's graced magazine covers and garnered an ardent male fan base for her role as a genetically enhanced, futuristic femme fatale.
The 32-year-old Weatherly, who plays the wheelchair-bound Logan on Dark Angel, was previously married to actress Amelia Heinle, with whom he has a son, August. He also dated model Rachel Hunter for a time.
Weatherly and Alba have apparently been dating for some time and only recently admitted that they did in fact have an off-screen relationship.
Weatherly told TV Guide that his leading lady is "exceptionally cool." When talking to the New York Daily News about Alba in March, he said, "I'm going to call it a personal life and just take the Fifth. Life is a learning process and I'm still learning. I've learned not to speak."
Before breaking out with the futuristic Fox series, Alba was seen in teen films such as Idle Hands and Never Been Kissed. Weatherly's credits include playing the ex-husband of lead Christina Applegate on Jesse and roles in the films Gun Shy and The Specials.
