Brando Too Ill for Scary Movie 2
April 25, 2001 -- Marlon Brando won't be collecting on a $2 million salary for a cameo in Scary Movie 2; the 77-year-old acting legend is too ill to film his planned four-day part, Dimension Films announced Tuesday.
The statement from Dimension Films' senior vice president of publicity cited only Brando's "continued illness," but Daily Variety reported last Thursday that the actor is battling pneumonia.
"Unfortunately, due to his health issues and unavailability, we must now recast his role. We wish Mr. Brando a speedy recovery," Dimension's statement read.
No one has yet been mentioned to take over Brando's part in the spoof; he was set to play a priest performing an exorcism.
Scary Movie 2 is a sequel to last summer's hit horror spoof directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and starring his brothers Shawn and Marlon.
