Lopez Fires Bodyguard
February 21, 2001 -- One of Jennifer Lopez's bodyguards is feeling his employer's wrath after being caught carrying drugs across the border. Though customs officials at the Toronto airport decided not to arrest the big lug, Lopez has reportedly fired him for giving her another legal scare.
According to the New York Daily News, the singer-actress and her entourage were detained for hours on Feb. 11, after a drug-sniffing canine discovered that one of her thugs was packing pot and hashish in his socks. Luckily, Canadian authorities decided to go easy on the bodyguard.
"It's up to an officer's discretion on whether to lay charges," Canadian police spokesman Larry Foy told the Daily News. "It was a very small amount."
Still, Lopez was apparently upset enough to fire the man. As the Daily News discreetly pointed out, the singer-actress, who is listed as a possible witness in the gun possession trial of her ex, Sean "Puffy" Combs, needs more legal trouble "like an extra inch on her derriere."
