Madonna Announces U.K. Show
November 8, 2000 -- Madonna has confirmed her first U.K. performance in seven years. The erstwhile Material Girl will perform Nov. 28 at London's Brixton Academy. Richard Ashcroft and Texas will open.
"This is a chance to get my feet wet onstage again and a way to say thank you to an intimate group of fans for all their support over the years," she said in an announcement that was carried by the BBC.
"It's a party that 3,500 people are invited to — and I am going to sing a few songs at my party."
Over the weekend, Madonna played her lone U.S. date in support of her new album, Music, at New York's Roseland Ballroom. And just like the New York show, tickets for the London gig will be distributed via invitations and giveaways.
Music debuted at No. 1 on the charts in 23 countries upon its release in September, and has since sold more than a million copies in the United States alone.
