Brad Pitt Won't Don Batman's Cape

Sept. 27, 2000 -- It’s time to stop imagining blond bombshell Brad Pitt as a caped crusader and the proud owner of vicious six-pack abs.

Though it was widely reported that Pitt was in talks to play the next Batman, newly anointed director Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem for a Dream) tells TV Guide that it just ain’t so.

“The media put two and two together and got seven,” kids Aronofsky, explaining that he and Pitt had been spotted around Tinseltown because they were discussing a script Aronofsky’s been toiling over.

False Alarm “It’s true, I did meet with Brad, but we were actually talking about the science fiction [film] that I’m writing,” he says. “[Pitt] had seen Requiem for a Dream and really dug it, and wanted to meet me. The word ‘Batman’ didn’t even come up.”

Last week, Aronofsky signed on to write and develop the screenplay for the next Bat-flick with Frank Miller, author of the graphic novel Batman: Year One, on which the film will be based.

Though details aren’t fleshed out (Aronofsky doesn’t yet know how old Batman will be this time around), Year One will follow Bruce Wayne’s rocky first year as Batman in a corrupt Gotham City.
