Woody and Soon-Yi Adopt Second Baby

Aug. 24, 2000 -- Those rumors about eccentric filmmaker Woody Allen and his wife, Soon-Yi Previn, adopting a second baby are true.

Allen, 64, and Previn, 29, have adopted a 6-month-old girl named Manzie Tio Allen, according to the New York Daily News. The couple raised suspicion when they were spotted carrying a baby carriage in June, though their other child, 1 1/2-year-old Bechet Dumaine Allen, already walks on her own.

Manzie Tio takes her first name from jazz drummer Manzie Johnson and her middle name from Lorenzo Tio, who taught clarinetist Sidney Bechet (for whom the couple’s other daughter is named) how to play. Bechet is one of Allen’s favorite jazz musicians.

Allen caused a scandal in 1992 when he left his longtime companion, actress Mia Farrow, for Previn, Farrow’s adopted daughter with conductor Andre Previn. Soon-Yi Previn has not spoken to her estranged mother in seven years.

Allen and Previn married in Venice in 1997.
