Who Will Be the Next Suri Cruise?
Suri getting competition from other trendy celebrity offspring.
Sept. 13, 2012 -- intro: Watch out Suri, there's a new crop of celebrity kids nipping at your kitten heels.
Since her parents Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise divorced, Suri Cruise has traded in limos for New York City cabs and been seen mixing it up with, gasp, ordinary kids in public playgrounds, leading a few celebrity watchers to question whether she'll be de-throned as the most stylish star offspring.
The UK's Daily Mail recently ran a picture of Lucia Gibson, Mel Gibson's daughter with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, wearing a pink flowered dress with a balloon hemline paired with pink flowered sandals and a pink bow in her hair, under the headline: "Is Lucia Gibson the new Suri Cruise?"
Allie Hagan, author of the popular Tumblr blog, Suri's Burn Book, thinks not. Written in 6-year-old Suri's imagined voice and with the tagline, "Just because you don't have a Ferragamo handbag doesn't mean you can behave like a child. (I'm looking at you, Shiloh.)," the blog features pictures of Suri at her best -- and most pouty -- while taking razor-sharp shots at other celebrity kids considered her competition.
"What makes Suri so interesting is she really is the child of A-listers," Hagan told ABCNews.com. "And then there's her impeccable taste in fashion. You can talk about how Mason Disick (son of Kourtney Kardashian) dresses day in and day out, but he just doesn't have that same cache."
Even Peter Brandt, the stylish son of model Stephanie Seymour and newsprint tycoon Peter Brant Sr., recently sang Suri's praises to Vanity Fair. "She's one of my idols," the 18-year-old told the magazine in August.
Hagan contends that even with Suri's new post-divorce lifestyle, "there's never been more attention on Suri Cruise and Katie Holmes, certainly not in the last three months."
Then again, there's never been more focus in the celebrity media on the children of stars. "It's definitely a new phenomenon," Hagan said. "Celebrity has grown to include the children."
While Hagan, a 25-year-old policy consultant in Washington, D.C., set out to poke fun at the entertainment media's newest obsession with her blog in July 2011, it quickly earned enough buzz to be named Time magazine's Tumblr of the Week and a book deal soon followed. "Suri's Burn Book: Well-Dressed Commentary From Hollywood's Little Sweetheart" was released this month and is Suri's definitive guide to famous children.
While Hagan believes the ultimate competition for Suri's throne could be the offspring of Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, there are a slew of other star kids ready to wear the crown. Click through to see some of them.
quicklist: 1title: Harper Beckhamtext: When your mom is the former Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham, and your father is soccer star and latest underwear modeling sensation David Beckham, style and good looks are a birthright. Accompanying her designer mother to New York Fashion Week, 14-month-old Harper Beckham put on something of a fashion show herself, walking the catwalk before her mother's show and perched attentively on her mother's lap while watching the show from the front row. "Harper has Suri most concerned," Hagan said. "She's beautiful and her mom puts her in the cutest, littlest outfits. And she definitely knows how to scowl."media: 17220247
quicklist: 2title: Lucia Gibsontext: Lucia Gibson, Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva 3-year-old daughter, hasn't amassed nearly as many paparazzi photos as Suri had by her age. But when Lucia made an appearance at the Los Angeles airport recently, Britain's Daily Mail pondered whether she was Suri's new competition in "the trendy tot stakes."media: 17220444
quicklist: 3title: Maxwell Drew Johnsontext: Before the birth of Maxwell Drew, "Fashion Star" mentor Jessica Simpson admitted to Elle magazine that she hoped her daughter would take more after her than her NFL father, Eric Johnson. "I swear, I will croak if she asks me for a pair of Nikes instead of Christian Louboutins!" Simpson told the magazine. But if Maxwell is hoping to give Suri a run for her money, she'll have to avoid missteps like the recent one when Simpson unveiled a photo of the 4-month-old wearing a yellow crocheted bikini, drawing criticism on the internet. "If mom keeps dressing her up in little bikinis, it may be a rough go," Hagan said.media: 17220415
quicklist: 4title: Monroe Cannontext: For twins Monroe and Moroccan Cannon's first birthday, their famous parents Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon created a website of photos from their first year, including pictures from their lavish birthday party in Paris. From the looks of the photographs, Monroe appears to be the diva in training, grabbing for her mother's jewels in one picture and posing forehead to forehead with her mother in another. "It always seems like their life is so glamorous," Hagan said, "like they are props in these beautiful photo ops."media: 17220519
quicklist: 5title: Blue Ivy Cartertext: Days after the birth of Blue Ivy, her parents Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z (real name Shawn Carter) filed a petition to trademark their daughter's name, reportedly for a future line of baby carriages, baby cosmetics, diaper bags and accessories for fashion-forward infants. But Hagan said the jury is still out on Blue Ivy's fashionista status. "What have we seen Blue Ivy wear except blankets," she said. "Beyonce hasn't been carting that baby around in cute little dresses." media: 17220594
quicklist: 6title: Vivienne Jolie-Pitt text: Hagan pokes fun of Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's seeming disinterest in girly clothes, but Shiloh's sister Vivienne Jolie-Pitt is another matter. The 4-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt obviously has no problem wearing dresses, but she spends much less time in the limelight than Surd. "They (the Joliet-Mitts) haven't been out very much," Hag an said. "They spend a lot of time overseas, living a quiet life outside the public eye." That could change when Vivienne stars opposite her mother in her first movie scheduled to hit theaters March 2014. media: 17220230
