Tamar Braxton Reveals Rib Removal After 'DWTS' Scare
“I’m definitely on the mend,” Braxton, 38, said on her talk show "The Real."
-- R&B singer Tamar Braxton said she is thankful to be alive after undergoing surgery to have her rib removed, sharing on her talk show “The Real” that while she is feeling better, she is still nowhere near a full recovery.
“I’m definitely on the mend,” explained Braxton, 38. “Some days are really tough. Like yesterday was too tough, y’all. I could not get out of bed.”
Just last month, she was forced to leave ABC's “Dancing With the Stars” early because of what doctors thought was pneumonia, then made a shocking comeback just in time for the start of her second routine, and was able to perform it live. But immediately after, she Instagrammed that her doctor found blood clots in her lungs.
"With a Heavy heart I regret to inform you that my season of #dwts has to come to an end along with the rest of my tour dates with @musicbykem. [musician KEM]," Braxton captioned a hospital bed picture with her pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy sitting at her side.
'Blood Clots' Cause Tamar Braxton to Quit 'Dancing With the Stars'
However after the blood clots cleared, there was more medical drama for the singer. She was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome, a condition often caused when athletes overuse their upper extremities developing a muscle that pulls up and compresses the subclavian vein. In order to remove that obstruction and stop the cause of the blood clots, Braxton needed surgery to remove her rib.
“I’ve never had surgery before. I’m scared,” she said on her WE tv reality show.
Alongside her husband, Vincent Herbert, Braxton shared just how afraid she was, even hiring a spiritual counselor.
“You’ve got to have somebody that’s constantly telling you, you know, ‘Tamar, keep the faith. Don’t give up. Don’t give up on you,’” Braxton explained on “The Real.”
