Taylor Swift to Donate 'Welcome to New York' Proceeds to NYC Public Schools
The singer, who moved to Manhattan recently, just released her new album "1989."
— -- Taylor Swift is giving back to her new adopted hometown.
The singer announced on "The View" today that she's donating the proceeds from the sale of her single, "Welcome to New York," to New York City Public Schools.
"I’m still learning but I’m so enthusiastic about this city that I feel like when I love something, I’m very vocal about it,” Swift, who was recently named a "Global Welcome Ambassador" for New York City tourism, said earlier this week during an appearance on "Good Morning America."
“I just go around going like, ‘Everybody, New York is amazing.’ So I think they just picked up on that and they gave me, like, a title.”
Swift, 24, has had a banner week, having just released her new '80s-inspired album, "1989." This marks the first time Swift has put out a pop album, something she described as the "most authentic" move.
“I feel so without a doubt [that] this is the best thing I’ve done," she told "GMA."
"So to have people able to finally have it now and to have the fans understand what I’ve been working on for two years, it’s just the most amazing feeling."
