April 14, 2011 -- "Teen Mom 2" star Leah Messer and husband Corey Simms are divorcing just six months after getting married, according to published reports.
Friends of the couple told tabloids that arguments between the two over money and infidelity had taken their toll.
Tabloids reported that the West Virginia-based couple has picked up paperwork to begin divorce proceedings, but those papers have not yet been officially filed.
Messer, 18, and Simms are the parents of two twin girls—both just over a year old and one with disabilities. Their off-again, on-again relationship was chronicled on the show. They broke up after the twins' birth but reconciled and quickly moved in together and became engaged. They married on the show's finale.
Messer had said she did not want to get divorced after getting married. "Marriage to me is a big commitment. If I took that vow it is going to be forever," she said during a "Teen Mom" reunion special.
The show has been a hit for MTV and but lightening rod for controversy. Critics have said the show glorifies teen pregnancy. The girls often grace the covers of tabloids right next to movie stars.
Another "Teen Mom," Jenelle Evans, was recently arrested after she was captured on tape assaulting a woman at the end of March. Evans, 19, was charged with simple assault and simple affray.
Amber Portwood, 20, another of Teen Mom star, is facing domestic abuse charges. She was caught on camera punching and kicking her daughter's father, Gary Shirley, in front of her child.
"These girls are often very impulsive, they don't have good judgment," said expert family therapist Terry Real. "I think it is really critical that grownups around teen moms support them."
MTV had no comment on reports of the divorce but plans to continue the "Teen Mom" franchise. A spokesman for the network said the program shows the harsh reality of raising a child as young mother.
