Tony Awards Lauded for Diverse Winners

The four main individual musical winners were actors of color.

"For the first time in #TonyAwards history, all four musical acting awards have gone to people of color," the Tonys tweeted on its official account.

The biggest cast win of the night came as no surprise as "Hamilton" won 11 Tonys, one short of the all-time record.

Among the four main musical winners were "Hamilton's" Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs and Renée Elise Goldsberry, and Cynthia Erivo for "The Color Purple." These wins are not to be confused with the dramatic awards.

Fans were still grieving the horrific massacre in Orlando, with at least 50 dead, but took to social media nonetheless to laud the Tonys for the diverse selections.
