Tributes Mourn Loss of Visionary Artist H.R. Giger

The Artist who created the creature for movie "Alien" died Monday after a fall.

May 13, 2014— -- Tributes poured in today for the late Swiss artist H.R. Giger, best known for designing the nightmarish creature in Ridley Scott's Gothic sci-fi thriller "Alien."

Giger, 74, died Monday after he was injured in a fall, the administrator of the H.R. Giger museum in Gruyeres, Switzerland, told The Associated Press.

Giger's admirers took to social media to express their condolences and to reflect on his visionary works, which influenced a generation of artists and filmmakers with his unique "biomechanical" aesthetic.

George Lucas' famed special effects studio Industrial Light & Magic also weighed in with a tribute.
