Tyler Perry Dishes on New Political Scandal Show, 'Too Close to Home'

— -- Tyler Perry is wading into the waters of political scandal with his newest show, “Tyler Perry's Too Close to Home,” on TLC.
“I love the idea of just how fun and exciting it could be to have someone have this great life in the White House and living their dream,” Perry said in an interview that aired today on “Good Morning America.” “And then have it all fall apart because of selfish, greedy, whatever reasons, and find themselves back at home.”
The entertainment mogul's home in Los Angeles contains a special room that serves as a tribute to the African-American pioneers in the industry who inspired Perry as he created his own billion-dollar empire.
“This room just represents all of the people who have literally paved the way so that I could be in this position,” said the Atlanta-based writer and director. “It's my homage to them.”
Perry said his own priorities have shifted since the birth of his son, Aman, in December 2014.
“Having my son has changed so much of what I dream about,” he said. “It used to be about business, business, what's the next deal? What's the next movie? Now it's about him.”
Perry is the creator of “Too Close to Home” but the eight-part series features a star of the Broadway stage and a well-known social media personality.
Kelly Sullivan, of “Young Frankenstein” and “The Young and the Restless” fame, plays Bonnie, the sister of Anna, the Washington intern who comes running back home.
“I relate to her a lot. She's very strong,” Sullivan said. “If Bonnie was a friend of mine, I just really would not mess with her.”
Brock O’Hurn, who rose to fame with a man bun video that garnered him 2.1 million Instagram followers, is a show business newbie. He said it was an honor to work with Perry.
“This guy is one of the most incredible, incredibly creative people I've ever met and seen in my entire life,” O’Hurn said. “It was incredibly humbling [to work with Perry].”
“It left me speechless, to be honest with you,” he said.
“Too Close to Home” kicks off with a two-hour premiere tonight at 9 p.m. ET on TLC.
