Video Shows Car in Flames Moments After Jamie Foxx Rescue
The Oscar winner said that seconds after he pulled out driver, car went up.
— -- New video obtained by ABC News captured the raging inferno that one man narrowly escaped recently by mere seconds, thanks to the quick thinking of Jamie Foxx and another bystander.
Foxx, 48, and the bystander -- a certified EMT -- helped pull Brett Kyle, 32, from a burning car Monday night after he crashed his car near Foxx's Los Angeles-area home.
Foxx, an Oscar winner, was one of the first people to call 911 and rushed down his driveway to assist the trapped Kyle.
"I said, 'You got angels around you,'" Foxx said he told Kyle. "'You have angels around.' ... As the flames come into the cabin, I lean back. ... As we pull him out, within five seconds later, the truck goes up" in flames.
Police said Kyle was driving his Toyota Tacoma when he hit a "drainage ditch," causing the vehicle to roll many times over and burst into flames. Witnesses said that the flames were growing and that gas was leaking from the tank. Foxx and the bystander used a tool to break the window and were able to cut the seatbelt, freeing Kyle.
Authorities said that Kyle was eventually "arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol."
Kyle's injuries included major head, chest and neck trauma. His family told ABC News that he is expected to be hospitalized for some time. Kyle's father, Brad, expressed gratitude toward Foxx on Tuesday.
"If he didn't help, my son would have burned up right here. ... It doesn't matter to me who it was or what they do for a living or whatever," Brad Kyle said. "Just the idea that someone would do that is so much more than I can fathom. ... It's all tears of joy."
