Viral Sensation Joel Berghult Impersonates Rock Stars Live on 'GMA'
Swedish impressionist Joel Berghult is known as “Roomie."
— -- When viral sensation Joel Berghult gets in front of a microphone, he does amazing things with his voice.
This impressionist from Sweden, known as “Roomie” to his fans, has racked up 150 million views with videos of his uncanny impressions of dozens of rock stars. One of his videos compiling impersonations of 14 singers, including Passenger, John Legend and Jason Derulo, has nearly 11.5 million views alone.
“I started being a singer and learned singing techniques and stuff, and I soon realized that my voice was very flexible,” Berghult, 27, said on “Good Morning America” this morning. “I did things like try to sound like an old man, or distorting my voice and it just went on. Then I realized I could make it sound like specific singers pretty recently, like just last year, but I’ve been developing my voice for a long time.”
There is one singer, however, whose voice he hasn’t quite been able to tackle.
“I’ve done a lot of voices but the one that I’ve had the most trouble with and haven’t actually done an impression of him yet is Ed Sheeran,” he explained. “His voice just changes so much through every song, just so much.”
Berghult put his talent to the test live on “GMA,” singing incredible renditions of Maroon 5’s “One More Night,” Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” and Michael Strahan’s personal favorite, Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer,” during which Strahan couldn’t help but join in on the singing fun.
