Dec. 30, 2009 -- Pop stars, rock royalty, leading ladies, First Ladies and models -- we present the style-setters who have caught our eye throughout 2009, in no particular order, with their consistently impressive sartorial choices.

1. ALEXA CHUNG
Alexa was exported to New York to present the "It's On With Alexa Chung" show for MTV. While there, she won over the US style pundits with her quirky style and kept us on side by staying true to the formula that won her our approval in the first place.
2. AUDREY TAUTOU
Having played the most important woman in fashion history, Audrey Tautou's armory of red carpet looks for the promotion of "Coco Before Chanel" was bound to be Chanel-heavy and very impressing indeed. It was.
3. SARAH JESSICA PARKER
With another "Sex And The City" film in the offing, and the recent release of "Have You Heard About The Morgans?", SJP is back to top form on the red carpet.

4. CHERYL COLE
Yes, we watched for the musical competition but, if we're honest, Cheryl's bi-weekly fashion moments on "X Factor" played a big part in our viewing loyalty. Her choice of edgy designers – including Marios Schwab, Giles, Richard Nicoll and David Koma -- earned her some serious cool kudos.
5. DANNII MINOGUE
And then there was Dannii, who was finally acknowledged as a contestant in the "X Factor" fashion stakes. Her hair – and her weekly get-ups from designers including Osman, Aurelio Costarella, J'Aton Couture and Donna Karan – kept us glued to our screens on Saturday and Sunday nights.
6. EMMA WATSON
Proenza Schouler (left), Christopher Kane, Saloni, Jason Wu – Emma Watson's designer roll call during the publicity tour for "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" was something to behold. Her status as a genuine fashion insider was cemented when she was announced as the new face of Burberry.

12. LILY DONALDSON
The quintessential off-duty model look is epitomised by Lily's don't-give-a-damn, boyish, easy coolness.

Meester left her Upper East Side alter ego behind this year and adopted a fiercer look with looks from Louis Vuitton (left, at Paris Fashion Week), Proenza Schouler, Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana.
14. MICHELLE OBAMA
Michelle Obama is in a league of her own. Her trademark bare arms and belted tunics - and flair for mixing pieces from J.Crew and Gap with Basso & Brooke (left), and Narciso Rodriguez – have earned her comparisons with that other most fashionable First Lady, Jackie O.

18. OLIVIA PALERMO
Mixing classic up-town polish with an unerring sense of on-the-money proportions and color, "The City" star Olivia Palermo never seems to set a stylish foot wrong.
19. CARLA BRUNI-SARKOZY
