Wayne Brady Discusses Debilitating Depression: 'Some Days, You Don't Want to Move'
The TV star discusses his battle with depression.
-- Wayne Brady is known as one of television's funniest people.
But the star of “Let’s Make a Deal” and “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” has battled debilitating depression, he admitted to “Entertainment Tonight.”
“Folks think, ‘Wayne Brady’s always happy.’ No I’m not always happy. Because I’m human,” he said.
Brady said he hit rock bottom this past June on his 42nd birthday.
“I was there by myself, in my bedroom, and had a complete breakdown,” he told ET. “It was like, this is not good.”
“Some days, you don’t want to move. You can’t move in the darkness. You just ... You know what? I’m just going to sit right here, and I’m gonna wallow in this. And as much as it hurts, I’m just gonna sit right here. Because this is what I deserve. Because I am that horrible of a person.”
Robin Williams’ suicide in August motivated him to open up, Brady said.
"I think that when you keep these secrets, and something that you learn as you read more and you go into treatments and you try to get help, these secrets kill,” he said.
