Whitney Houston's Death: Bobby Brown in Los Angeles to Be With Daughter Bobbi Kristina

Feb. 13, 2012— -- Bobby Brown has left his reunion tour with New Edition and flown to Los Angeles to be by the side of his distraught daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, who was briefly hospitalized Sunday after the death of mother Whitney Houston at age 48.

Bobbi Kristina Brown, 18, the only child of Houston and Brown, was hospitalized after an ambulance was called to the Beverly Hilton Hotel, where she had been staying with her mother. The girl was reportedly suffering from anxiety after her mother was found dead in the bathtub of her hotel room Saturday.

"Obviously, the death of her mother is affecting her, however, we will get through this tragedy as a family," he said in a statement to Extra. "Again, I ask for privacy during this time."

Bobbi Kristina Brown was transported from the hotel at 10:26 a.m. local time to Cedars-Sinai Hospital and was "awake and alert" at the time. She was "hysterical, exhausted and inconsolable," according to TMZ.com, which also reported that family members fear she is suicidal and are considering getting her help.

A family source told ABCNews.com that she was being "treated for stress and anxiety." She has since been released.

Bobby Brown, who is on tour with his original R&B group New Edition, took to the stage in Mississippi after hearing of Houston's death, but was reportedly having "crying fits."

"We are absolutely shocked and saddened by the sudden and untimely death of our dear sister Whitney. As a group, we are extremely close; when one of us hurts, we all hurt," New Edition said in a statement released Saturday.

During the performance, Brown pointed to the sky and said, "I love you, Whitney."

In the hours after her mother was discovered not breathing in the bathtub of a Beverly Hilton Hotel room, Bobbi Kristina Brown was reportedly turned away from seeing her.

Earlier, TMZ reported that Bobbi Kristina Brown got into a shouting match with police officers outside her mother's fourth-floor hotel room when they informed her no one was allowed in. TMZ said she "screamed, cursed and demanded to see her mother" before ultimately leaving.

Houston's cousin, Dionne Warwick, was also turned away by officers, according to TMZ.

But Bobbi Kristina Brown was more than just close to her mother; she became her caretaker as the six-time Grammy winner struggled with addiction.

"Bobbi Kristina basically grew up her mother's caretaker, similar to Frances Bean," Drew said, comparing her to the daughter of singers Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain.

"In a way, she was the adult in relationship," Drew said.

Houston finally divorced Brown, 43, in 2007 and entered rehab last spring. The couple wed in 1992 at the height of their careers.

Afterward, she seemed to be making up for lost time with their daughter, who, like her mother, was an aspiring singer and actress, apparently with her own impressive voice.

Mother and daughter had begun working together on songs in the recording studio, according to Us Weekly.

"She idolized Whitney," a source told the magazine, and "wanted to be just like her mother."

One way she was unlike her mother: She apparently didn't do drugs.

After the National Enquirer published photographs in May that appeared to show his daughter snorting cocaine, her father Bobby Brown told ABC News Now, "I don't know anything about that. My daughter, she doesn't, she doesn't do that."

Bobbi Kristina Brown also defended herself on Twitter a day after the photos came out, saying she was "set up" by a money-hungry ex-boyfriend because of "a horrible relationship that went sour."

"It's really not what it looks like," she wrote.
