Winona Ryder on her return to fame in 'Stranger Things': 'It's so overwhelming'
Ryder, who stars in the hit series "Stranger Things," finds fame overwhelming.
— -- Winona Ryder's return to fame in the Netflix hit series "Stranger Things" has been called a "Winonaissance," but the actress herself calls it something else.
"It’s so overwhelming," Ryder, 45, told Marie Claire UK in a new interview. "I don’t know what it’s like for really famous people ... I keep hearing that people are dressing up like me [as her character Joyce]. I’m like, 'What?'"
Ryder, who first gained fame in the 1980s in cult classics like "Beetlejuice," "Heathers" and "Edward Scissorhands" before taking a break for several years, admitted that it would be tough to start out now.
"I’m grateful that I got to start at the time I did. As much as I love it, I don’t know if I would even have become an actor [if I was starting out now]," she told the magazine. "I wouldn’t know how to [handle it]. I do worry about the massive exposure at that age."
Many of the young people on the show, including Millie Bobby Brown, tease her for being such a worrywart.
"I'm like the old grandma," she said.
She recalled how she once mistook Snapchat for some kind of snack and asked the kids on set if she could have some: "Snack chat? Give me a piece of that!"
She added, "I’m like the confused older person [on the set]."
