‘Out of the Woods’ Exclusive: Taylor Swift Says New Song Is About ‘Fragility’ of Relationships
The 2014 Billboard Woman of the Year has a new song coming out tomorrow.
-- Country-turned-pop star Taylor Swift has a new song coming out Tuesday and many have asked whether the tune, “Out of the Woods,” could be about someone she has dated.
In a new video, Swift herself provides some answers about the song, which comes from her new album, “1989.”
Speaking in the video, Swift said “Out of the Woods” was one of her favorite songs on the album because it fulfilled all the goals she set out to accomplish, primarily to make sure the songs “sounded exactly the way that the emotions felt when I felt them.”

In the video, Swift said the song was about the “fragility” and “breakable nature” of some relationships.
“This was a relationship where I was kind of, living day to day, wondering where it was going, if it was going to go anywhere, if it was going to end the next day,” Swift, 24, said. “It was a relationship where you, kind of, never feel like you’re standing on solid ground … .”
She further explained that such feelings bring on excitement but also cause “extreme anxiety and, kind of, a frantic feeling of wondering, endless questions, and this song sounds exactly like that frantic feeling of anxiety and questioning.”
But the song isn’t all about the anxiety of such a relationship. The song also “stresses that even if a relationship is breakable and fragile and full of anxiety, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t worthwhile, exciting, beautiful, and all the things that we look for,” she said.
Swift, who is well known for using her own relationships as inspirations for her music, didn’t address the rumor that “Out of the Woods” is about One Direction singer Harry Styles, whom she use to date.
“Out of the Woods” is co-written by Fun. lead guitarist-singer Jack Antonoff. A preview of the song aired today on “Good Morning America.” It will be available Tuesday, only on iTunes.
