New York Comic Con: What We're Excited About
It's tough to narrow it down!
-- New York Comic Con kicks off today in Manhattan with a slew of crucial comic, movie and TV happenings taking place through Sunday at the Javits Center, making it a superhero fan's Super Bowl, quite literally.
Here's a rough breakdown of what we're looking forward to:
1 - 'The Walking Dead,' 'Iron Fist' and More!
Hot on the heels of Netflix's "Luke Cage," comes "Iron Fist" -- Power Man's partner from the books. This panel is set for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. ET on the Main Stage and will feature star Finn Jones of"Game of Thrones" fame.
AMC's "The Walking Dead" panel will also take place on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., a couple weeks before the big Season 7 premiere on Oct. 23. This event is actually happening away from Javits at Madison Square Garden because NYCC just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
There are even more panels to come over the four days, including ones for "Westworld," "Archer" and "Ash vs Evil Dead." "Ash" will take place offsite at the Hammerstein Ballroom today because Bruce Campbell is just that awesome and needs a whole building to himself!
2 - Marvel and DC
Marvel is hosting a variety of fun panels, including "50 Years of Black Panther" and "Marvel NOW!: Divide We Stand," both on Friday. "Divided We Stand" will examine the after-effects of "Civil War II," in which we saw War Machine and the Incredible Hulk meet their demise.
DC Comics is offering up "Rebirth" on Saturday, featuring storylines around comic greats like the Green Arrow, Deathstroke, Wonder Woman and other icons of print.
3 - The Costumes
A fan made a 9.5-foot-tall Iron Man Hulkbuster costume last year and walked the floor!
According to Tech Insider, the costume took 1,600 hours to put together. That's just one outfit, and there were hundreds more that were just as amazing. We can't wait to see what this year has in store.
4 - 'Power Rangers,' 'War for the Planet of the Apes'
Movies are also big-ticket panels and screenings at this Con. The latest in the "Planet of the Apes" series will give fans an exclusive sneak peak at the film, out next summer. Andy Serkis is actually going to be onsite today at 8:30 p.m. at the Regal E-Walk Theater. The acclaimed motion-capture actor will also be part of a panel the next day.
Madison Square Garden will also house a Q&A for next year's "Power Rangers" film that is an update of the 90s classic show. That panel is Saturday at 2 p.m. and the cast is expected to attend.
5 - The Icons
We could go on and on about the shows and films, but where Comic Con shines is bringing fans together with legends. Stan Lee, Keanu Reeves, Adam West, Bruce Campbell, Brecki Meyer, Carrie Fisher Ethan Hawke, Lucy Lawless, Lee Majors and so, so many more all set to attend.
And remember when George Clooney skipped his honeymoon and walked the floor? Only at Comic Con.
