The Best New Pet Products
From getting in shape to eating well, new products help you pamper your pets.
March 18, 2009 -- Are you looking for new toys, products and ideas to make your pet's life easier and more comfortable? Veterinarian Marty Becker hit the Global Pet Expo in Orlando, Fla., last month, the industry's largest annual trade show, and discusses some of his favorite new products.
Go Pet
The problem of pet obesity is on the rise. The Association for Pet Obesity Prevention reports that nearly half the nation's pets are classified as overweight or obese and the Go Pet is intended to change that by getting your pet in gear. Just like a treadmill for a human or a wheel for a hamster, the Go Pet is an exercise wheel for dogs.
The freestanding wheel lets the dog walk or run for miles. It's perfect for a plump puppy, especially one that lives in an apartment or with an owner who can't take the pet out as much has needed.
The Go Pet comes in a number of different sizes and models, starting at $248.

To Go Bowl Car Cupholder
If you like to take your pals on the road with you, the To Go Bowl is a good way to carry water and treats in the car. Instead of making your pet wait until you stop to get some water, this water bowl fits into your cup holder.
Plus, the cup part of the bowl can keep treats, so that everything you need to keep your pet happy on a long car trip is right at your fingertips. And you can take it out and put it on the ground as well when you do make that rest stop. It comes in small, medium and large sizes, starting at $19.95.

Veterinary Drinkwell 360
When you're home, the Drinkwell 360 fountain is a great way to provide fresh, clean water to your dogs and cats, especially if you have more than one. The clever thing here is that you can set multiple spouts at different levels — giving all your pets a chance at the water without their having to jostle for position. And it comes apart for easy cleaning. It costs $64.99.

Frolicat Bolt
The Frolicat Bolt keeps pets active and playing. It's an interactive laser toy that creates laser patterns for your pet to chase, pounce on and bat around.
Just don't use it near the good china, and you'll all have a great time for $19.95.

Polly Wanna Piñata
No party is complete without a pinata. And why should birds be left out?
Birds need to chew, not only because it's entertaining but because it helps them maintain their beaks. Bird owners know what happens when birds don't have a something to chew on — watch out for furniture or anything they can get their beaks on.
Polly Wanna Pinatas come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and can be filled with treats or you can fill them yourself. They cost: $7.49.

Ecotrition Bird Snak Shaks
And there are the Ecotrition Snak Shaks — 100 percent edible hideaways for small animals.
Made with fresh alfalfa and golden honey, they give the birds a place to hide and are a great-tasting treat. They come in a range of sizes, starting at $14.99.

Sweet Feet & Beak Perch
And let's say that your bird is in the mood for a spa day. The Sweet Feet & Beak Perch easily hooks onto the side of your bird cage and serves double duty. It gives your bird a perch while keeping its nails and beak trim and healthy.
The perch is made from a pumice stone product, just like the stones used for pedicures in salons. It's a great way to pamper your pet. There are a variety of sizes and prices, starting at $11.95.
There's also the Vision Bird Cage and it's from Hagan. It runs about $116.99

Exo Terra Glass Turtle Terrarium
Exo Terra has three great terrariums. The first one is great for turtles. It's watertight and extra-wide, which gives turtles more room to move on the water's surface.
And there are the Exo Terra Desert Habitat Kit and Exo Terra Rainforest Habitat Kit. They are for pet owners who want to create a world close to the home their reptile pets come from.
In the rain forest terrarium, there are jungle vines and plants. The background is very detailed. This terrarium is great for snakes, frogs, lizards and geckos.
The desert terrarium is just as detailed and has a rock outcrop, plant, hiding cave and what looks like a sand boarder in the background. The terrarium is also good for certain species of snakes, lizards and geckos.
All three of these terrariums from Exo Terra come with detailed instruction manuals and are easy to keep clean, starting at $149.99
